The insulators and wire were cached at "Wire Cache" in 1876 by Francis Barnard of "BX Express" fame, who ran freight and stage coaches on the Cariboo Wagon Road. Barnard was awarded the 4th and most western contract to build a telegraph line from the great lakes to the pacific coast, along the original CPR "Yellowhead" route through the Rocky Mountains. The route was changed in favour of Roger's pass to the south. The line materials were abandoned. |
