I just picked up this very interesting piece which is similar to a U-296. The dome on mine is not flat as depicted in the porcelain guide book. The marking is interesting and instead of being just a plain "lazy S" as Jack Tod described, the S is surrounded in what looks to be a diamond. The embossing is true raised embossing and the piece was made by dry process -- From the notes by Tod, the piece was made by Thomas and used in the Portland, OR area. Has anyone seen a piece like this before and do you know of a more specialized history behind it?

Please see a profile shot under Help/Questions -- Sorry for the blur in that picture!

UPDATE: This piece was not made by Thomas but instead by the Canadian firm Smith and Stone. Thanks again to Lee Southern for letting me know!
