A look back 90 years ago at the business section of this North Dakota community. On the left are telephone open wire lines with a crossover-junction lower on the pole with two crossarms. In the center is an enclosed electric arc light on a span wire powered from the distribution circuit pole on the right. Note the electric transformer on the latter pole which provided lighting service to the businesses along this Main Street USA. Added note...The street light shown was lowered for maintenance via a pulley-winch mechanism. The pulley was affixed immediately above the fixture while a hand-crank on the pole allowed it and the two power-wires to droop to ground level for such servicing. |
