Atop the tall poles on the left are fire alarm circuits most probably made from standard 1-1/4-inch diameter pipe fittings. The latter often ran on top of utility poles and when they did, short wooden crossarms or pipe bracket fittings with wooden pins inserted in their vertical elbows were sometimes used. On the lower sections of both pole lines shown here are electric distribution and DC trolley circuits with a telephone open wire line extending down the street on the right. An enclosed electric arc light can be seen in the distance; mounted on a horizontal mast arm with a pulley-winch arrangement (at eye-level on the pole) so the fixture could be lowered for periodic maintenance.
