A 1938 view of "downtown" Florence, Oregon, located on the Oregon coast. The open wire line is a local telephone line of Pacific Telephone & Telegraph Co. part of the famous Bell System. Note the two 16 pin crossarms which were used in local service but rarely, if ever on long distance or "toll" open wire lines. The power lines are the West Coast Power Co. long defunct and now a Public Utility District. I like the 1938 Plymouth on the right with the slant back and 2 piece rear window. Probably rusted away at the coast in a junkyard by the time I was a kid!
