Some have never seen a dry-spot in service. Well here is one in NE Oregon still being used on an open-wire telephone tap to a ranch. The main line runs on past this point, and the tap runs through the dry-spot to an underground cable. The dry-spot being used to make the connection between overhead bare wire and insulated underground, in a "dry-spot" so the insulation of the underground wire does not get wet.
