New York City 1873 Wall Street Panic

It is not too well mentioned nowadays however there was at least a day of real Wall Street investor panic sometime during 1873. Shown is a street scene depiction of this event as it was happening on Broad Street (which is not far from Wall Street.) Note the Western Union Telegraph Company building on the far right. No doubt this office delivered a great many investor messages on that day, transmitted through the maze of telegraph wires seen here criss-crossing the nearby streets.
