A long-ago type of piece, offered at a reasonable price due to heavy reconstruction. Foster Brothers CD 740s are likely one of the most famed insulators in Canada, with every antique dealer believing themselves to have a supreme knowledge of insulators and what to keep an eye out for once they know what a "Foster Brothers" is. And, they are right that they're worth keeping an eye out for. Dating from the late 1850s to early 1860s, this black glass jobbie is a real threadless, that's for sure. This particular example, however, is one of the "Resinated" examples put into the hobby back in the mid to late 1990s. A collector (unnamed here) wound up with a large quantity of shards from Foster Brothers CD 740s, and decided to see if he couldn't piece a few back together... the only thing is, the shards he pieced together were from different insulators, with the extra space between the non-matching shards being filled with an opaque black resin. Thus was reborn this particular "Frankensulator"

This particular example is better than many, with nearly half of it being one large piece of an original threadless. There are only three large shards used in the reconstruction of this piece. And, it does look good. These pieces look crude to begin with, and this one is no exception. All the shards appear to be a colour match, as well. All are a dark olive green blackglass colour.

This is your chance to add an example of this esteemed Canadian threadless to your collection for less than the $300-700 that reasonable to mint condition examples tend to sell for. Even one cracked in 3 pieces and reglued will still fetch nearly $250.00. I'm asking $90.00 U.S. plus shipping for this repaired example. I accept personal cheques from any member of ICON, or anyone I've dealt with before. Please feel free to email me with any questions, or for more photos. Also, please check out my "unsold" stock in the "Not Sold" folder, and combine multiple purchases to save shipping! All the best!
