Long Branch, NJ Storm Evacuation Telegraph Lines 1880

This is an artist's depiction of many people "Heading Out of Dodge" (actually Long Branch, NJ) as a brutal hurricane was upon this community's footsteps. I know nothing more about this harrowing storm other than the fact that it was illustrated within Harper's Weekly and hit on September 17, 1880. Clearly seen are the evacuees and a classic telegraph line to the right (with the dark, ominous clouds in the background). Back in those days obviously there were no early warning systems and telegraph messages sent warnings to those potentially affected, unfortunately without much notice before disasters like these struck. Those messages probably were sent upon the lines you see here....
