Years ago I rescued an turkey vulture chick from an old building that was to be demolished. I raised Charlie and in the fall it migrated, returning in the spring. I guess there was no nesting site for it and after a few days it disappeared . I now have a box for them to nest in on top of my house. Here, Gertrude and Heathcliff take in a bit of sun on a rainy May day on the woodshed roof. I don't often see them and when I do they are either on the roof of the main house, too far for a picture, or flying high overhead. Seldom close enough for a picture and even less often together, this was an excellent time to get their picture. Too bad the photographer is an amateur. They are not a common bird in Southern Ontario, and finding a nest is even more of a rarity. Just one more thing about me that make my neighbours shake their heads. In the winter when they are away, I have this to remind me of Charlie. [id=98037401] |
