I bought this card last year for my display of early telegraph itesm for Springfield Ohio show. The base reads: A-32 Winning the West Down Goes the Telegraph The indians resented the telegraph in much the samme way taht they resented th eorn horse. They saw in this new aid to the white man's civilization a further threat to their own way of life. The Indians of Western Kansas angrily tore down some of the first telegraph wires. For good measure they set fire to the railroad ties. Wild West Picture Card Gum 1949 Bowman Gum, Phila Pa USA. The front shows an Indian who has climbed a pole and is using a hacket to destroy the line. In background Indians are setting fire to ties. Measure 2 x 2 1/2 inches. Price: $40 shipped. A great display item. |
