The Hemingray No.40 I found today is the one on the left. I noticed that none of the N0.40's I have are perfectly round, but, none are oval shaped like this one, The very top was also missing from this one. It makes me wonder if it was ever there when installed on the pole. My guess is that provided the threaded portion of the insulator would screw onto a pin, then it didn't matter if anything else was wrong and out the door it went. Anybody out there have one this bad. Believe me when I say it looks even worse in person then what you all can see through my camera lens. Took out my vernier caliper and measured my find after posting this pic. So this paragraph is updated. So here are the results of my measuring. First, according to the book blue print the base of a CD 152 is supposed to be 3.5" wide. The narrow side of this oval shaped insulator measures 3.420" while the widest dimension is 3.910". That makes this insulator one thousandth short of one half inch out of round. These must have been very hot and near molten when removed from the molds to deform this much without breaking or shattering when dropped on their sides. There was a rather large chip on the narrow side which may have or may not of happened when it was dropped. |
