This is a bottom of a Blackglass Mason's Patent 1858 Hemingray made jar like the one in the auction that met the $10,000 reserve. It was found in a location well away from the Covington plant site along with other bottoms, sides, rims, threads and lids from all three blackglass styles Hemingray made including the Royal 1877 patent. ([id=209505804; See picture posted Mar. 7,'08]). They have different mold numbers with this 5 being the highest I have found. The Royals have had 1, 2, and 3 and the plain bottoms have mostly #4. Would be a tough series to collect! These are the same style fancy numbers found on the bottom of Globe jars. I've found mold numbers in those up to 47. |
