I believe this is a (please correct me if I'm wrong) Montana Madison pole and pin used with Provo's brought to the tailgater all the way from Montana by Justin Martin. It's the 1st thing that caught my eye as I arrived at the tailgater. It would probably be in my backyard right now if I hadn't flown to the show. Right name/usage or not, it's still quite a neat looking piece of history. **Justin was kind enough to provide the following info regarding the Madison Pole** "The lines were started in 1899 and were completed in January of 1901, L.L. Nunn was the head engineer. No Coolies were used on these lines, the line's "as built" specifications called for a 9" Converse type insulator but all I found were 1 Provo's, I wish I would have found a 9" that would have been something. The lines were of an all wood construction where the crossarm was mortised through the middle of the pole and secured with hard wood pegs. the pins were heat treated with paraffin wax and were to be considered part of the insulation." Thanks for the info Justin |
