Late in California production, several offered styles were changed and whole new moulds were made to produce insulators using less glass. It appears another change was to stop adding manganese as an added cost ingredient, as these styles are only found in aqua or blue-aqua. For whatever reasons, very few of the new style double groove pony have ever been recovered in the field, making them one of the most obscure and difficult to acquire Californias. This little keg is what I refer to as "California Blue" .... about as blue as California ever made, a very refreshing color in the warmer palette so typical of California glass.

This specimen is exceptional in appearance, with some decent dome glass and a nice spray of bubbles up the front and over the pinhole, giving it a nice sparkly glow.

Damage is minimal, with a small clean flake at the skirt edge about the size of a pencil eraser just behind the left mould line with a tiny associated sliver off the edge at the base. A few picks and pecks and annealing marks typical to use round out the description. Overall, a very nice example that is straight out of my collection.

These pieces have seen increased awareness and appreciation in value in recent years and are rarely offered for sale. If you have wanted one of these elusive little buggers, here is a really nice specimen at a decent price. $350 post paid in US
