These fixtures were installed around 1950 and were of the then-new GE Form 109 design. They employed 400 watt mercury vapor lamps which were state-of-the-art owing to their energy efficiency and long lives. Having always been fascinated by street lights as well as insulators, this double-bracket installation always remained in my memory-lane file. Now, I finally found a long-desired photo of it! These fixtures were eventually "upgraded" to high-pressure sodium by the mid 70s. However I will never forget seeing this twin installation at a distance from sitting in my dentists' chair from one of the buildings in the background! |
