Above is a 7ft section of a cedar pole I just dragged back in about an hour ago. The line that I've been checking out the last couple days dates from 1861, and this is where this pole came from. I found a drawing of the line from 1861, and it clearly shows two insulators to a pole on side pins, no crossarms, which makes this very interesting, this pole has never been notched, and you can definitely make out where two side pins would have been attached. Awesome stuff.... I'll run the metal detector over it later to see if I can find any nails broke off inside...
