The pictured splice is of a pot wiped lead splice sleeve between the tie cable to the telephone central office main frame and the outside plant. The interesting part of this splice is the porcelain insulator in the middle that separates the cable sheath to isolate the central office from lightening and power surges. Of the hundreds of splices I have made and seen in 33 years of service this is the only one I have ever seen. This was a gift made today to the Charles Hall Telephone Museum in Tellico Plains, Tennessee from a retired AT&T employee in Ohio.
