Nothing like a fine day spent enjoying the great outdoors, for a GOM and his best friend Bruno ;-) Actually this isn't the GOM and BRuno, there is a program called "The Bear Man of Kamchatka" which was shown on "Animal Planet last weekend. The bear is a yearling cub that he "parented" the previous year, one of two, and he was also "parenting" two much younger cubs, teaching them how to fish and hunt. His name is Charlie, he is from Canada, and he was spending half of the year over in a very idyllic and remote location in Kamchatka which is a "world heritage" wildlife protection site, with the blessings and encouragement from the local authorities. He has been "adopting" abandoned or otherwise orphaned brown (grizaly) bear cubs. As he describes them the local bears are "quite tolerant" of humans and apparently don't see people as a threat or competitors. |
