Photograph of a nice looking gal posing upon one of a great many Vespa motor scooters that made their way into the United States by the mid-1960s. These cool two-wheeled "bikes" ran nearly forever on a gallon's worth of gas (at 29 cents a gallon then!). Here in MA you had to register your scooter as a motorcycle opposed to tooling around with it without a registration or license plate. At any rate, these were a super nifty (and thrifty) and fun way to get around in those days! I didn't own one (was not old enough to own a drivers license then). However my dad had one for a few years in the mid-60s. It was an economical "second car" that got him to work and back every day (10 miles one-way) while my mother drove our 1966 Buick sedan to and from her job. |
