This is a great depiction of the Connecticut Turnpike in the late 1950s; an original image created by the General Electric Company, Outdoor Lighting Department. It promoted GE's state-of-the-art mercury vapor roadway lighting fixtures which lit much of the CT Turnpike for many miles ahead of the New York State line. The 400 to 1000 watt mercury fixtures operated on an overhead street series principle and remained as such until the early 1990s until replaced by high pressure sodium lights.
