This is the last of the vine plants I am going to post. This woody vine just about everyone knows or has had to climb through to get to a pole and should become familiar with it. These can be thick or thin, many forked and usually matting and overtaking the entire tree or pole rapidly. The grapes are small versions of the purple Concord grape, are small, bitter and edible plus make excellent wines, juices and jellies. The vines however have uses too, in the craft hobby they are well liked for wreathing and rustic decor, for climbing, they are an excellent last ditch item to get out of a pinch, and, these vines, if you cut them towards the base about neck high will give clean, potable water to drink. The amount of potable water depends on the vine size. You have to cut the vine at angle or V with the pointed end down. |
