This pole is covered with another commonly encountered vine that climbs and creeps like poison ivy, this is called Virginia creeper, most popularly called poison sumac by those who do not know. This vine has all the attributes of poison ivy(climber, creeper, hairy vines, berries, serrated glossy leaves in groups of 3-5,)etc...but it is NOT related to the poison ivy vine nor is it poisonous. The Virginia creeper is a member of the grape family and easily distinguished from poison ivy when you're seeing it close, whereas the poison ivy/oak/sumac are in the cashew family.
