Here is a fuzzy (sorry!) shot of the Jewelweed plant. It grows in damp shady woods in the midwest, and maybe further. The claim to fame about it is if you break off the plant and squeeze out the juice, it will help relieve the effects of poison ivy and insect bites/stings. Look for the light green scalloped leaves and white veins. The stem resembles a bean sprout in texture and toughness. They don't last very long as they are quick to wilt. Next time you have an itch in the late spring/summer woods, give it a try. |
