On the same day as the [id=203700372;G.N.W. DWIGHT CD 143], my father & I eventually reached some sort of industrial compound in our hike, and, already with several DWIGHTs and threadless shards in our possession from the field, we decided to head back to the car and hit another stretch, hoping for the same fortune.

As we walked, we made sure to check the ground for any missed shards, as is customarily done by anyone who doesn't want to be the one to be told later on that they "missed the good stuff", such as some $2,500 threadless laying on top of the ground in the field. Well, no such luck would bestow us this day, but when we were nearly at the car, quite close to the edge of the road, I looked into the dirt, and spotted a Dwight right in the first peak of plowed dirt, and, about a foot farther into the field, and unusual looking dome which I did not recognize. The Dwight, embossing forward, was obviously not a G.N.W. piece, and was broken, so I left it as it was, but the other piece I set to work digging out. As the soil gave way and the piece slid out into the sunlight, I was alarmed at having found my first ever 1678 CD 162.4 in the wilds! And, as an added bonus, the piece was in an amazing colour - some sort of yellow-green swirled aqua shade, making the thing sparkle with green vibrancy in such a way as I had not seen for a while. Seeing that colour shining from behind the coating of fresh dirt on the piece is a liberating feeling unparalleled in satisfaction!

On a tragic side note, the glass from 1678 162.4s is apparently quite temperamental, as only seconds after this photo was taken, the insulator cracked into three pieces from the difference in temperature in the air as compared to the ground. I nearly cried when I saw (and heard) the yellow green glass fracture violently in front of my eyes. A good gluing job later, though, and the piece is still high up in my collection, and a personal favourite!
