This photo shows two very old style General Electric power distribution transformers, in service on a 4160 volt Portland General Electric Co. line in Oak Grove, OR., circa 1954. They date back to the 1910 era but were still working well some 40 years later than that. Talk about quality! The fluted style cases were made of cast iron and must of been quite heavy. They are now long gone and very few, if any, of these still exist in service. How do I know all of this? The pole was next to my grade school and I snapped the picture with my new Brownie Hawkeye camera! Pretty lousy, huh! We have come a long way in film technology. Note the riser conduit with wires not connected just below the transformers. This was the future connection to a new addition to the school.
