Competition! This photo was taken by me years ago with some terrible camera....I don't remember it! The photo shows a duplication of power service in the coastal town of Rockaway, Oregon. On the right side of the street an old Mountain States Power Co. pole is of interest because it shows two M-2430 multiparts still in use but now on the 2300 volt distribution line. The line was originally 22,000 volts but had been moved off this street and onto the main highway. The multiparts were left in place and a third one was probably removed from the empty top crossarm. On the left side of the street are the poles of the Tillamook P.U.D., a public utility district which now serves the area exclusively. At the time of this photo, Pacific Power & Light had merged Mountain States and was still competing for power service with the P.U.D. This kind of service duplication clutter was eventually outlawed by the Oregon Public Utility Commission. |
