In the 1971 film, "Vanishing Point", ex-racer, Kowalski tries to drive from Denver to San Francisco in just 15 hours, while being chased by every police force along the way. Much of the movie is filmed in the Nevada desert, including this scene on U.S. 6, west of Tonopah. Here, Kowalski is seen paralleling the Defense Backup Route open-wire phone line, which once ran from Phoenix to Portland. The camera continues to pan as Kowalski's Dodge "Challenger" roars past, giving a good view of the line. This phone line also appears in many other scenes throughout the movie.
