This Tillamook PUD pole still has the original Victor Ins. U-414 style insulators, which were installed in the 1950's. In fact, this is the dominant insulator used along this part of the line, which runs parallel to the shoreline within one block of the surf. There are some replacements, but if you look at the U-414 close up and on the ground...it is huge! It also has a long leakage path and seems to stand the test in service pretty well. It's kind of a fusion of a high-top and a bowl type power insulator.
