Not only is this street scene great...check out those 16(?) pin crossarms on the lower end of the pole line. Here in New England only 10-pin arms were used for telephone open-wire as I recall. There were various pin spacings for transpositions and specific subscriber loop installations. However bunching everything together as you see (on 10-plus-pin-crossarms) was unheard of in these parts. I'm sure New England Telephone & Telegraph Company (and the varied independents that existed in the northeast) would have loved this arrangement in order to compact crossarm/pole space. However, with trees abound and some very ferocious winters and other storms, open wire spacing HAD to be built upon the ten-pin, ten-foot crossarm norm to prevent individual wires from touching each other. |
