Electrical appliances such as irons, ranges, water heaters, etc., were very rapidly growing in popularity in the 1920's. This caused an urgency for electric utilities to upgade the capacity of their generation and distribution lines. Actually, this trend has hardly changed thru the decades ever since electric service distribution began in the 1880s!
