This is definitely in specimen condition, but the history is still all there. This is purported to be the first pin type insulator known to have been used in this country. I do not know how many are known to exist in collections, but I'll bet no more than you can count on one hand. These were used on the Magnetic telegraph line in 1845. If you are a true insulator history buff, the damage should have no impact on your decision to own this important historical artifact.
