The 38th National was a memorable event. Not because of the wonderful variety of insulators under one roof, but because the people who make the hobby are always such a joy to talk with. It's education in the hobby at its best. Of course, sometimes you have to sort out the real facts from some of the gently stretched facts, but a ball all the same. Get to a National at your first opportunity. I was lucky enough to come up with some 731's for my Springfield display this November and a few others. Above is a great 731 on the left with the "M" on top. Collectors far more knowledgeable than me have decided this is a Beaver Falls Glass product and the M stands for Mode---the main guy at Beaver Falls Glass at the time. In the middle is a very nice green 133.4 base embossed PAT'd with some nice streamers in the skirt. And on the right is one of the classic insulator shapes---the 135.5 ERW. All are better than VNM. My camera does not pick up green very well for some reason, even in daylight. But the 133.4 is a true light green. |
