Jim Colburn said he was going to make the show. Apparently he never could find a place to land this thing. Back when we were kids Dear old Dad built a thing he called a "whirligig" that involved a fiberglass school chair, a Lycoming six cylinder engine and a 25 foot propeller, and a lot of bad welds and bailing wire. The thing ran on whale blubber and he had to fly it to Canada to get fuel. Since it had little or no steering and took most of his fuel reserves just to make the trip, it often crashed, causing large fires from the spattering exhaust of partially burned blubber. Fortunately, it never flew very high. This caused more fires, but the crash impact was never too severe with his 1952 district champs football helmet on for protection.
