This clearly shows the pinhole, the hole to pass the wire up from beneath, and the other (still dirty with pitch) hole which passes from the top "dry spot" section, then out the side of the wire groove. This allowed a dry spot splice termination, between the heavy cable and a thinner drop wire, for a telephome line. The pinhole was originally packed with hemp (and no, I didn't try to snmoke it)
