This is a glass and iron ramshorn style telegraph insulator in its original wood. For those who are unfamiliar with this insulator; they were used on a line that went up to a Weather Observatory on top of Mt Washington in New Hampshire. I understand weather conditions are very harsh during the winter months and you don't see many of these in their original wood because of the that; they just did not survive. The wood is 90% solid with only a 1and1/2 inch wide by 2 inch section of loose wood that is the center section if you are looking at the end view, (please see second picture). The glass insert is a nice dark green, damage to the glass is limited to the area around the rim on the face side and this is pretty typical for one of these. All in all a nice piece of early telegraph history. My price; $125.00 and I will pick up the shipping and insurance to U.S. and Canadian locations. I have other views available if you need more detail. Thanks |
