I absolutely love these GNWs, so if you're starting to become tired of me posting them, just let me know and I swear I'll go to great lengths to stop myself henceforth! This is another example of the [005] embossing of G.N.W. TEL. CO. CD 145, with the G.T.P. blotout, and in a shiny shade of Canadian light aqua. This example happens to have a particularly lovely iron tie attached. It seems many collectors agree that a century-old crude iron tie is one of the number one character additives an insulator can possibly have! Well, if it's character you're looking for, this piece has it! The damage consists of a few chips here and there. There are only three of any importance, and two of them can not be seen easily because of the tie wire still attached. There is a 3/4" flat chip off the bottom of the wire groove above the 'G' in G.N.W.. The second is on the rear upper wire ridge just off centre to the right. It's a 3/4" no glass missing flake and really doesn't detract much. It's actually quite like the one on the front, but the glass is still in place, and going no where! The only other damage I can see, short of a couple tiny pings (one on the front dome, and one on the rear skirt) commonly associated with 100 year old insulators, is a 3/4" area of small chips on the rear base. I can supply photos if you are interested. I'm asking $10 U.S. plus shipping for this history-packed beauty of a Canadian telegraph piece! I accept personal cheques from any member of ICON, or anyone I've dealt with before. All the best! |
