Experimental Armstrong mid span transposition "insulator"

This assembly has transposed wires embedded in a glass "X". At the point of crossover, the embedded wires have about 1" of separation. The wire spacing at the four ends corresponds with a standard pin-to-pin dimension on a crossarm. Armstrong had extreme difficulty trying to successfully manufacture a CD 1049 style insulator, which may have led them to developing this unusual "transposition".
