Old Side Pin with Sharp Threads

This old side pin from rough-cut lumber still has the original square cut nails. The red lead paint still shows. The pin was threaded using "V" shaped threads. The pitch is 4 threads per inch but the outter edges of the thread is a sharp "V". This is the first I have seem with this characteristic. If you have, or have seen pins threaded this way I would love to hear from you.
