This large gem walked out of the woods recently and after ten years of pounding the ground in these parts for one, I happened to be in the right place at the right time to finally get my mitts on a nice example. Marked with the 6-1 marking, this is an original install from the Burke No.1 line built from Spokane Falls to the mines in Burke, Idaho. Crude as a fat dog, it is as rumpled as a slept-in suit. Here we see a chip or defect that was whittled away while the unglazed shells were still green and then glazed. This side of the top shell is relatively smooth and uniform. The other side is another matter. [id=179337337] |
