It's hard to get a grip on the magnitude of what we were dealing with. In this photo almost all you can see are insulators, many with the paper wrapping still on. Over the last year, Anthony, Gary Gez, and I lifted and moved every crossarm that came in, but were never allowed to dump the barrels that had been filled before I tracked this place down. Too late the contactor realized that you can't recycle insulator glass and the only ones interested are collectors who only want one in a thousand. Turns out there were thousands of insulators in those barrels, mostly commons, many broken, but there were a few keepers nestled inside. Anthony pulled 8 CD 151 peticoats from one barrel, and a beautiful VNM Star 162 with a huge potstone from another. You just never know. |
