This really old telephone pole stood alone against this tree for many years after the rest of the line was gone. I still can't figure out if it was left on purpose, maybe because it was wrapped in the tree at one time, or somebody thought it looked neat. Or they just forgot it. The pole was on a rural telephone line near Molalla, Oregon. Notice the insulators are white porcelain nail or screw knobs. This was common on some early telephone lines...not everything was glass insulators on pins.
