CD 528 from Algeria AKA the "General Morice" Insulator

This one is from Algeria, probabmy manufactured in France by EIV. No embossing or other identifying markings. These were reportedly used for telegraph lines to a French Foreign Legion (Legion Etrangere) outpost in the Algerian desert. Just remember the many remakes of the movie "Beau Geste"... Just call this one a "lucky find".Only a few are known to exist in the USA.

Update 3/22/07: Apparently these were used for electric fences surrounding FFL outposts in the desert, check the August 2001 CJOW article here: (Thanks to Caleb for this information).
