I snapped a photo of this very old Pacific Gas & Electric pole a few years back. It was located on the main highway just south of Santa Maria, Ca. I noticed that it had been there forever and I assumed that it would still be there, but on my last trip through there, it was gone. The top crossarm was the original line and uses Locke M-2360 multiparts. Note the single arm brace. The lower crossarm is another 12,000 volt circuit that was added later, it is using Westinghouse "wasp waist" M-2370 multiparts. Both types have extra long lower shells to combat leakage in the ever present salt air and fog. The pole was probably old enought to date back to the Coast Counties Gas & Electric days, who were bought out by PG&E. Many of these older multiparts are still in use on the California Coast but are gradually disappearing to make way for polymer yukduks! |
