Another view of the East side tower. How many power towers constructed like this are left in this world? Lattice braced girders with rod and turnbuckle supports and get a load of that ladder! I'm scared just looking at it! But it will all be on the ground soon...... UPDATE---As of Nov. 22, '06 the towers have been dismantled and removed with only the lower half of the island tower still standing. It has been difficult for me to observe this from high on the hill at work and not be able to get down there and see what kind of old suspension insulators they are hauling away! UPDATE---As of Nov. 26, I have found 2 strings of the suspension discs near the west side tower site that have not yet gone for scrap. They were Locke discs with the incuse marks used in the 1930's and a few Victor Insulator Co. units in a nice orange color that looked to be the "add on" discs used when the voltage was upgraded. I have one disc of each type for keepers. This tells me that they were not the original 1915 insulators and the towers were probably re-insulated in the 1930's. So what was originally installed is still a mystery, probably Hewletts or something even more rare...Duncan Patents? Kent Anderson photo. |
