Known to a few of us as the Ventura insulator, This classic multi was used on the 1907 Castaic-Ventura tap line that taped power from the Kern River So. Cal. Edison tower line that used the M-4800. The Line was constructed by the Ventura County Power Co and was operated at 33kV . The line was dismantled in the 1930's when Edison acquired the Ventura properties and integrated their electrical system into the Edison grid. Only about six to eight of these insulators are known. This insulator was superseded by the Ohio Brass M-2843 in the Edison system. There is an amazing photo of these insulators before installation on page 82 of Multipart Porcelain Insulators (2nd edition ) By Elton Gish . A few of these classics were still in service in the Ventura area in the late 1980s .
