CD 135 [020] shoulder embossed CHI INS CO PAT OCT 16 1883. Nice blue with a good amount of steam, blubbles and a few amber stringers to boot. 1 dot mold. The base plate on this mold has consistent looking mill marks. I looked at it in all kinds of light hoping to see remnants of base embossing but could see none. I thought I saw a letter or 2 but I think it was just my eyes playing tricks on me. Its got character. The diamond grooves and base are nearly perfect. No flakes. Around 1/2 of the shoulder though is a series of nibbling flakes starting at 1 in 16 and ending at H in CHI. that I see on Chicagos occassionally. There are also some just under the surface fissures around the diamond groove, skirt and into the dome that could be from manufacture or use. If you view or purchase this piece on Monday, the patent will be celebrating its 123 year anniversary. Books says $75 - $100. My price is $66.66 and that includes the shipping. First email.
