I apologize for the poor picture, but the Sandhill Cranes would not co-operate. They insisted in staying several thousand feet high in the air. Not the best circum stances to take a picture, but as they say in Baseball,"you take what they give you" At first, I could only hear them, then as the noise grew louder, I could see them approaching in the distance. There were thousands of them. Count this "V" formation 60+ birds, and this is one of 50 plus formations. These birds have been seen flying at 12,000 ft. They keep their formations well apart from each other, and very high. Cautious birds, I have seen them circle over a swamp for more than an hour, before descending to land and spend the night on their southern migration
