Three poles (one in right foreground and two at center) from a 1929 transcontinental telephone open wire line that were "replanted" at the Goffs Museum compound in California's Mojave Desert. The original 1929 line was dismantled and removed in the early 1990s. Fellow members of the historical group "E Clampus Vitus" provided the volunteer manpower to get the job done in this 2002 photo. All three poles are now part of an interpretive tour at the museum. If ever traveling through the Mojave Desert on I-40, take a short side trip north to Goffs. Stop in at the museum (a restored 1914 schoolhouse), grab an interpretive tour brochure and visit our poles!
