I have been holding off on constructing my openwire phone line until I had an adequate number of dead end spools and brackets. As mentioned on ICON, I was looking for these, but there was no real response leading to the correct hardware. On the way home from the Yuhas Shindig, following backroads in my usual fashion, I came across a fence with a few of the desired spool brackets. I backed up and went to a nearby house to ask permission. The man told me he worked for the phone company and took down thousands of them, keeping a pile out in a nearby field for use on fences, etc. I offered to buy them, but he insisted I take them - no charge. These are the small phone type dead ends and are no the same as those typically used on power or railroad lines.
